THE OUTFIT: SUIT + TOP + SHOES & ACCESSORIES

There is no substitute for a suit in an interview situation. Once you land the job, if the work environment doesn't require a suit, you can re-purpose it by matching the jacket with jeans for casual Friday and wearing the trousers or skirt with a shirt or sweater top. DailyOutfit recommends buying every piece of the suit that you can afford -- finding a match later is often impossible. Having matching pieces is indispensable when on travel -- especially to a conference when you want to carry your luggage onboard.

THEORY "GABE B" SUIT (Jacket $375, Trousers $245): If you need a powerhouse suit, this is it. Impeccably cut and tailored, this suit is at home in the boardroom of any Fortune 500 company. This brand runs slim, however, so don't go for it unless you have the frame to carry it. Misses 00-12. Available in four colors.

APPLE - Hourglass - rectangle

BANANA LIGHTWEIGHT WOOL SUIT (Jacket $198, Dress $150, Skirt $80, Trousers $98): Banana brings us classic with an updated twist. Straight collar, one-button jacket with a strong shoulder and flap pockets gives you great structure. High-waisted pencil skirt smoothes you out and provides a great line. Flat-front, wide-leg trousers sit just below the waist for a modern look that might not flatter everyone. Dress has a high neck to give you the coverage you crave and a high waist to camo your bumps. Square neck is great for Vee-shapes, but should be avoided by Rectangles. The understated taupe plaid is all-season and provides great texture without being too outre. Sizes vary depending on item. TAHARI BY ASL ROUND-COLLAR SUIT (ON SALE $182): Beautifully-cut, flattering suit. Round collar emphasizes the shoulder, inset waistband emphasizes or creates a waist. No pockets on jacket or trousers for a clean look. Misses sizes 4-18. At this price, it is definitely worth trying this suit for a Petite, assuming some hemming at the sleeve and leg. Available in black only.

INGENUITY PETITE and MISSES SUIT (Jacket $166, Trousers $96): Classic princess-seams and notch collar on this suit make it so flattering. Misses and Petite sizes 2-18. Available in seven colors. We recommend neutrals for an interview suit -- black, brown, navy or stone -- and love navy for its year-round appeal. Flat-front trousers are high-rise for a flattering smooth line. Pair with a classic wide belt if you are a Pear.
